Internet Marketing Myths Explained

Internet Marketing Myths

Internet Marketing Myth #1– Social Media Marketing is just a fad

Not only is social media here to stay, it is a crucial part of your internet marketing campaign. The odds of social media going away is about as likely as eight track tapes and rotary phones making a comeback.

Social media sites have actually been around for awhile now. Chances are your competition has been using social media marketing to attract more customers and strengthen relationships with existing clients. This doesn’t mean you need to ditch your traditional way of advertising. Social media is simply an additional marketing weapon to add to your arsenal.

Social Media sites include more than your Pinterest, Twitter and Facebook. Yes, these are the well known social media sites, but there here are hundreds of sites available and new ones are developing rapidly.

Internet Marketing Myth #2 – After awhile your website will be finished.

One of the biggest misconceptions is that once your web designer is finished creating your site, it is complete. So many people have their site designed and won’t contact their web designer for at least 6 months or so, maybe to add a new product line. Even the word site implies something fixed that never changes.

If you want your website to work for you, meaning bring you traffic and ultimately business, you need to update your website regularly. Why? Google indexes websites with new information, not information that hasn’t changed since last year. Remember, Google has a job to provide Internet users with quality content. Additionally, websites with a larger page count will rank higher than smaller sites. This means the more content you add than your competitors, the more you can outperform them in the search engine results.

What kind of content can you add to your website? Write as many blog articles as you can. First try for one article per week. If you have time to write 2 per week, this is even better. If you have a free afternoon, write a ton of articles and schedule them to post on different dates.

Internet Marketing Myth – SEO only means bringing traffic to your website

Yes it is true that a Search Engine Optimization means to bring targeted traffic to your company website, however this is just the first part of optimizing your site. The next part is converting your visitors into customers. This is called Conversion Rate Optimization. Conversion doesn’t necessarily have to result in a sale, but your visitor should respond to some type of call to action. This call to action may be subscribing to your RSS feeds or following you on Pinterest.

Your layout should not only be visually pleasing, but the placement of the information should involve careful planning and consideration. This means, make sure that your call to action items are visible to your viewers. Remember navigating your site should feel intuitive, not confusing to the user. It is too easy for people to click out of your site and move on to the next one so make sure your content appeals to your visitors
